I wanted to understand the concept of personal identity and link it with cultural representation. After exploring symbols and patterns that represent a culture I decided to come up with 

6 questions.

1. Where were you born?

2. What are two of your favourite colours? 

3. Where have you lived?

4. Where do you live now?

5. What is your religion?

6. Where would you like to live? 

I then distributed it in class and collected a few answers and used surveymonkey to distribute a questionnaire. Through feedback and research on mandala patterns, I began to think about ways to connect personal and cultural identity and decided to use these answers into a mandala design. I produced a series of tapestries and a key for each. These tapestries will have a mandala on it. Each ring of the mandala will represent a pattern from the answers of each question. The key provided will allow people to read the design as it will show the meaning of each pattern.
